I can find fractions, decimals and percentages of amounts expressed as whole numbers, simple fractions and decimals.

Link to modelling book.

Link to Extended Abstract task.

I found the last two activities on google docs easy because on IXL you have to answer heaps of questions to complete it but on the doc you only have to answer a few questions and show your working out.

Distinction Evidence: Kapa Haka 10

The other day I had Kapa Haka. I turned up with my poi even though I didn't think I needed to use it. When we got there we got in our new lines from last time. Some people that were away had to be sorted into the lines according to height.

After we sorted out the lines, the boys went on the stage and the girls went underneath the stage. Then we went through the the songs, I knew all of them because we had learn them the week before.

We practiced the routine performance and the teachers reminded us to remember where we were in the lines do they didn't need to sort them out again. Most of the songs we are singin but are school songs or ones that we have previously learnt. Two of the songs we are learning are songs with actions, when we started the first one most of us didn't know all of the actions so we copied the people that did know. When the song finished the teachers showed us the actions and we ran through the song one more time.

After we finished they told us that we could leave for morning tea.

The care value I showed was respect by listening to the teacher.
I showed leadership by listening to the teachers when the were teaching us the actions.
I was a role model by not talking over top of the teachers.

Distinction Evidence: Deputy Head Girl 10

The other day I had Student Council. There was nothing new we needed to talk about so we decided to review everything. We talked about the mufti day we will be having and what the theme will be, we made sure everyone told there classes that the theme would be sports stars. We also decided that the pet would be changed to another date which we would discuss with Mrs Trotter. Then we reviewed ideas for the fun day at the end of the year, we only looked at the ideas that would actually be able to happen.

Below is the minutes that I took for the meeting. We didn't have Mrs Trotter there with us because she was busy, so we no teacher helping to run the meeting. We also didn't have any homework for this meeting because we didn't talk about anything different.

Parliment

This term we have been learning about Parliament. We have looked at the difference between government and parliament, NZ parliament, who is in government, how our government works and we compared democracy to dictatorship.

Three things that I learned are NZ parliament are:

  • The Speaker of the house is called David Carter
  • The Sergeant-of-arms carries the mass
  • The Deputy Prime Minister sits in the 3rd seat

Here is the link to my compare and contrast map explaining the difference between democracy and dictatorship.

Distinction Evidence: Technology 5

On Tuesday the year 7&8's went to Technology. When I was on the bus I made sure that I was quiet and that I was only talking to the person next to me not anyone else.

Once we got to Lincoln we went to the Woodworks room and got our stuff ready. Then we did some sanding before we left for Mandarin.

After that we left for Mandarin and revisited some of the things we learnt in the past and learnt how to say what is there name in Mandarin.

After Mandarin Mr Bowers attached our table top to the legs and told us to sand over the bit the he sanded. He also taught us how to beeswax. The beeswax smell like gas but when we put it on the wood it didn't smell and it actually made the table shiny.

After we were done we packed up and then we got to take our table home with us on
the bus and headed back to school. I made sure I was only talking to the person next to me and whispering.

The care value I was showing was Respect because I respected the bus driver when I was on the bus.
I showed leadership by helping others with the beeswax.
I was being a good role by not talking to people that weren't sitting next to me on the bus.

Distinction Evidence: Kapa Haka 9

Yesterday I had Kapa Haka. I turned up with my poi even though I didn't think I needed it. When we got there we got in our lines. Then the teachers talked to us about how they were going to change our lines up, so instead of lining up in age groups we were lining up in height. So four year eights stood in the centre in a line, I was one of them. Then they got everyone else to line up on each side height wise.

After we sorted out the lines, the boys went on the stage and the girls went underneath the stage. Then we went through the the songs, I knew all of them but one because I was away the week before.

We went through the whole routine then when we finished, the teachers told us that we were going to perform at the Gala, the Senoir Citizens Concert and possibly the Prize Giving.

After that they told us that we could leave.

The care value I showed was respect by listening to the teacher.
I showed leadership by listening to the teachers when the were showing us where to stand.
I was a role model by not talking over top of the teachers.
