Info Report (The Water Cycle)

The Water Cycle

The water cycle is a process that water goes through between land, ocean and atmosphere. There are four steps throughout the cycle, Evaporation, Condensation, Precipitation and Runoff. There is no start and no end to the cycle. (that's why it's called a cycle.) The water in the water cycle is the same water being re-used and recycled over and over. (like when you recycle things and home.) Throughout the stages the water can change state eg. liquid, solid, gas.

One of the important steps in the water cycle is Evaporation. Evaporation is and invisible process where the sun heats up the water in rivers, lakes or oceans, then the water turns into a gas. (water vapor.) This process is faster on hotter days because the sun heats up the water faster, so it turns into vapor quicker than usual. After the water vapor goes into the sky it forms into clouds... which is called Condensation.

My Short Story

WALT...
  • Use a large productive vocabulary across the curriculum (Year 9/10)
  • Use a wide range of punctuation appropriately and with increasing accuracy. (Year 9/10)

The pieces of my writing that are highlighted green are where I have shown my vocabulary and punctuation goal

My Story...

Tyler is 22; he is a gingerbread man. He lives in a gingerbread house, in a gingerbread neighborhood. His neighbor, Matt, who is also his best mate, sometimes comes over to his house. Together they play Candy Crush or Gummy Bear Kingdom. Tyler is also very lazy; that is part of the reason that he and Matt play video games all day everyday.

One fateful day, after the light shone through the small crack in the pantry door, Tyler was looking out the window and saw a hand. A human hand! It picked up his house, Tyler was very anxious. Then it placed his house down delicately with Tyler inside.

A small while later Tyler finally could be bothered to get up. He looked out the window and saw that Matt's house was no longer there! Being the type of gingerbread man he is; Tyler didn't even try to go see what was wrong.

About an hour later, he heard some music, and some voices. Then all of a sudden his house crumbled; smashed into tiny bite-sized pieces. He looked up and saw many human faces looking down at him. He sprinted, no he just ran. He saw a cliffs edge in front of him, he jumped.

After searching through many feet, he found an enormous open door, he strolled inside and found Matt. He was hiding behind the door and looked terrified. Tyler asked Matt what he was doing. Matt responded with "I was looking for you, follow me I've discovered a hideout where we can live."

Once they arrived at the hideout; Tyler looked around to make sure they had the essentials. Bed, check, video games, check, Wifi, check. Okay they have everything and are safe so that must be the end.

How about I just add; and they all lived happily ever after....

Writing- Expositition

This is the conclusion of my Exposition writing.

I believe that Richie McCaw is the better leader because he has been an awesome team captain and is very kind towards other teams. He is confident and supportive and is a great public speaker. Richie has captained 58 tests with 51 victories and has also held the Webb Ellis cup twice for NZ. He is also very calm when the All Blacks lose a game. In my opinion Richie McCaw is the better leader.

Writing- Use bold ideas, rhetorical questions and examples.

WALT use bold ideas, rhetorical questions and examples.

This is a paragraph where I have used all three things.

"Don't you remember having to spend six long hours at school, then having to come home and do boring homework? Well, the school day should be shorter! If it was, we could have more fun, we would have more time in the day to do more stuff we want to do."

Bold statements are highlighted green, examples are highlighted orange and rhetorical questions are highlighted blue. I think I am at Extended Abstract because I have completed my goal. My next step is to join a new writing group from my AsTTle Test.

This is my entry and exit ticket.

Writing- Use punctuation in my writing

The paragraph of writing below shows that I have used Speech Marks, Exclamation Marks, Commas, Apostrophes and Question Marks. I have also used Capital Letters and Full Stops.

"Hello!" says the Orange. "I'm the Annoying Orange, this is Archie the Apple and Sour the Lemon."

"Why, why fruit?"

"Hey buddy you're a banana!"

I have used these in the correct way and I know why I have used them.

Careers Writing: Punctuation

This is my last paragraph of my Careers Explanation Writing:

Overall I think that being a forensic scientist is the perfect job for me. Even if there aren't many jobs available in New Zealand, I still think that I will get a job.

Prove It Writing ( Oaklly's Walk )

Prove It Writing
Oaklly's Walk

"Mmmmmm"I groan.

I wake up to my nana's phone ringing. I start to growl to wake her up. I hear her get out of bed and start to walk towards my cage.

"Come on puppy" she yawns.
"Outside".

She opens the door of my cage and I run out and into the door.

Slam!

I didn't put my brakes on fast enough. My nana giggles then slides open the door for me to go through this time.

Once I'm outside I sniff around looking for something to do.

After a while I'm fast asleep in the sun outside. Then I hear.

"Oaklly, come on puppy".

It sounds like my mum. I quickly race to the back door.

Outside the sky is now pale blue and the sun is brightening the day with a yellow tinge of sparkle. I see a flock of birds fly in a triangular shape past the sky above me. I want to chase them but I can just resist the temptation.

"Do you want to go for a walk?" Mum asks.

"Woof" I reply.

"Well come on then".

She leads me inside. Then she grabs my harness and I put my head through a hole and my paws through another. She tightens it up and we walk past the car toward the garage door.

Then it slowly starts to open. I get all jumpy and excited!

We carefully walk past the sprinkler so we don't get wet. Then we start our day of adventure.

We walk down the windy path toward the end of the walkway. I see bees circling a daffodil fighting for a place.

Up ahead I see Bella, my friend. She is a pomeranian foxy with a golden ginger coat. Her tiny little ears prick up when she sees me, my ears don’t do that because mine are all floppy. I can see her race toward me, she doesn’t have a lead because she doesn’t run off like I do. She is about half the size of me and she is trying to get on top of my back.

My mum drags me away from her and her owner calls her. So I have to carry on with my walk.

I turn around and my mum has dropped the lead, I run for it, I feel so excited and free. Then I stop and turn around she’s not coming and chasing after me she is just standing there. I see her lips close so much they form the small shape of a circle. She whistles as her hand reaches into her pocket. Treats! I race toward her like I am chasing a bunny. I skid to stop myself from running into her, then I sit. She throws a treat in the air and I jump and catch it in my mouth.

Delicious!

We continue on our walk and soon I see our house ahead. I catch sight of a creature jumping over a fence and across the driveway to another fence. I drag my mum toward the house.

My mum lets me outside and I hunt for the creature. I think she's a cat and I'm pretty sure mum and nana call her Roxy. I finally spot her around the back of the house behind the recycling bin. She leaps  through the hole in the gate and I jump to catch her, with a huge miss.

“Ugh” I sigh.

I'm going for a nap.

Writing- Brainstorm Good Ideas to Use in my Writing

There he is ( or she ). A beautiful dalmatian with a bright pink nose and a huge black circle around her right eye. She made my insides feel funny, but in a good way. She has a daisy tucked behind her ear and she filled me with warmth.

"She's beautiful" I exclaimed.

" Would you like to get her" asked Mum.

"Of Course" I answered.
