Distinction Evidence: Technology 5

On Tuesday the year 7&8's went to Technology. When I was on the bus I made sure that I was quiet and that I was only talking to the person next to me not anyone else.

Once we got to Lincoln we went to the Woodworks room and got our stuff ready. Then we did some sanding before we left for Mandarin.

After that we left for Mandarin and revisited some of the things we learnt in the past and learnt how to say what is there name in Mandarin.

After Mandarin Mr Bowers attached our table top to the legs and told us to sand over the bit the he sanded. He also taught us how to beeswax. The beeswax smell like gas but when we put it on the wood it didn't smell and it actually made the table shiny.

After we were done we packed up and then we got to take our table home with us on
the bus and headed back to school. I made sure I was only talking to the person next to me and whispering.

The care value I was showing was Respect because I respected the bus driver when I was on the bus.
I showed leadership by helping others with the beeswax.
I was being a good role by not talking to people that weren't sitting next to me on the bus.

Distinction Evidence: Technology 4

On Tuesday the year 7&8's went to Technology. When I was on the bus I made sure that I was quiet and that I was only talking to the person next to me not others around me.

Once we got to Technology we went to the Woodworks room and got our stuff out. Then we did some sanding before we left to go to Mandarin.

After that we left for Mandarin and revisited some of the things we learnt in the past and played a game where we had characters and we said 'there name is _____' in Mandarin.

After Mandarin Mr Bowers attached all of our table legs together and gave us some little wooden stub things to put in the holes that the nails were in. We had to hammer them in and it was really hard because you had to position it perfectly and if you hammered the wrong place it would damage your table, so we helped each other. Once we did that Mr Bowers sanded the ends off so it wasn't sticking out.

After we were done we packed up and then got on the bus and headed back to school. I made sure I was only talking to the person next to me and using a quiet voice.

The care value I was showing was Respect because I respected the bus driver when I was on there bus.
I showed leadership by helping others with the hammering.
I was being a good role by not talking to people that weren't on my seat on the bus.

Distinction Evidence: Technology 3

On Tuesday we had Technology. When I was on the bus I made sure that I was quite and that I was only talking to the person next to me not others around me.

Once we got to Technology we went to the Woodworks room and got our stuff out. Then we did some sanding before went went to Mandarin.

After that we left for Mandarin and learnt numbers 1-100.

We went back to Woodwork and got four new pieces. Mr Bowers taught us how to use a chisel to cut out a piece on wood on each of the four pieces. It started off hard but then it got easier on each piece.

After that we got on the bus and headed back to school. I made sure I was only talking to the person next to me and using a quite voice.

The care value I was showing was Respect because I respected the bus when I was on it.
I showed leadership by helping other with the cutting.
I was being a good role by not talking to people around me.

Distinction Evidence: Koru Games 2

Day 1

Day one of Koru games started great. I'm in the B team. I was really excited and it was cool because we meet up right before the game and it was about to be the first real game I played with my team.

Then during practice/warm-up I rolled my ankle. I was so annoyed so I walked around and tried to stretch it out. Then Mr Ladbrook put me on the field to play. I could play alright but it still hurt, then I decided that I should not play that day and then I could play day two and three.

Then later in the day it became so sore I couldn't stand. But by the time we got on the bus it was good enough to walk on. After school mum took me to the doctor to get it checked, they told to rest, it and ice it.

Day 2

Day two of Koru Games didn't happen for me, my ankle was to sore and it would be stupid to go out that day. I was really disappointed because last year I was sick for the three days of Koru Games.

Day 3

Day three was awesome my ankle was fine, and on the bus Mr Ladbrook told me that I could move up to the A team because there wasn't enough girls. So I played my first game, which was a full game because there has to be three girls on the field at a time, and there are only three girls in the team. We lost that game but it was so fun and got a few good touches.

We had another game and again I had a full game. We lost that one also but it was fun being in a good team. I kinda felt like I was letting the team down, but they said they were losing anyway. So that me feel better.

We had one last game and we lost this one as well. It was disappointing but at least we got a last try.

When we got back to school we found out that the Football Boys A team scored first out of about 30+ teams which was incredible, and our Volleyball Boys came third out of about 30+ teams as well!

The care value I showed was respect because I respected all of the teams even if we lost.
I showed leadership by listening and not arguing with the ref.
I was a role model by getting on with the game even if the ref was wrong or something along those lines.

Distinction Evidence: Fundraising for Wellington 1

On Tuesday I had been chosen to go and walk around Hornby Mall and Barrington Mall. We had a parent superviser so the teacher could still teach the other kids, her name was Manda and she drove me and one other person too.

We left school at 1:00 so that we would arrive back by 3:00. Firstly we went to te Hornby Mall. We walked around in pairs as this way we would cover more ground. I went with Dylan (the other person that wen twitch me) and we went to a hairdressing salon, they were really nice and said that we should talk to the manager and he would be ready in ten minutes, so we walked around other shops before we went back there. We went to lots of different shops and most of them took a notice and said they would talk to there manager/store owner.

We carried around a notebook and wrote down all of the shops that took a notice. A few shops said that they would get a pack ready by Friday, so Manda (supervisor) said that she could come back on Friday and collect them. Then we went and visited my Aunty because she works in a shop in Hornby Mall.

Then we went to a few shops in The Landing, because we didn't have enough time to go to Barrington, so we went to most of the food shops and got a voucher from Pizza Hut.

After this we went back to school and arrived just on time for the 3:00 bell.

I think that I showed the Care value of Excellence because I kept going even though some shops didn't take a notice or want to give us anything.

Excellence Evidence: Technology 5

Yesterday we had technology at Lincoln Primary School. I'm in the Textiles group, which means Sewing. We are currently working on our product. The Textiles group and the Design group work together. We could choose if we wanted our project to be 3D printed or sewn. I chose to make a sewn project and then later I will choose to do a 3D printed one.

I'm creating a bag, it will be made out of denim fabric with black zips and a flap. I will decorate it with some stuff that is related to my culture eg. hobbies, favourites, friends, family. First I made a prototype, which is basically a mini version of my final one so that I know how I'm going to make it. My prototype was made  out of green fabric.

First I planned what I wanted to have on it. I've decided to have my initials, then surrounding my initials on the whole bag I will have little pictures of things that relate to my culture (examples of culture above.) Then I started making it, first I cut out a paper pattern, then I cut out two pieces of denim (the same size) and sewed them together.

After that we had to pack up to get back on the bus to go back to school.

The care value I showed was respect because I respect everyone around me by not using there stuff eg. shears, machine, even if it was only going to be a minute.

I showed leadership by staying focused on my task and listening respectfully to my teachers and peers.

Excellence Evidence: Technology 4

On Tuesdays we have technology at Lincoln Primary School. I'm in the Textiles group, which is Sewing. We are currently working on our product. The Textiles group and the Design group work together. We could choose if we wanted it to be 3D printed or sewn. I chose to make a sewn project and then for my second one I will do a 3D printed one.

I'm creating a bag, it will be made out of black nylon with black zips. I will decorate it with some stuff that is related to my culture eg. hobbies, favourites, friends, family. First I made a prototype, which is basically a mini version of my final one so that I know how I'm going to make it. My prototype is made out of red fabric.

The teacher didn't have nylon or zips yet so I couldn't start so instead I planned what I wanted to have on it. I've decided to have my initials, then surrounding my initials on the whole bag I will have little pictures of things that relate to my culture (examples of culture above.)

After that we had to pack up to get back on the bus to go back to school.

The learner quality I showed was resilience by not giving up when the teacher didn't have the right fabric for me.

I showed leadership by going onto a different task when my fabric wasn't ready. Instead of sitting there and doing nothing.

Excellence Evidence: Cross Country 3

On Thursday the Kauri team had there yearly cross country at Halswell Domain. When the bell rang we did the Whanau Hui as usual. Then we had about half an hour to do some SML. (Self Managed Learning) After that we packed up, got our stuff and lined up. The seniors were last in the line so we arrived last. When we were crossing Halswell Road there was a police officer to help us cross safely.

When we got down to the domain we had something quick to eat and then we walked the track so we knew where to run. We didn't walk all of it because it was very long. The year 7/8 races were first because the touch team had a tournament and they had to leave at 12pm. We had to do 2 laps of the course. The year eight girls went after all of the year sevens left. After my race I was exhausted. I came eighth. We got to sit down and relax for a bit and then we went over to play a game chosen by the house captains. The game was capture the flag. I am very proud of myself for coming eighth.

The leaner quality I showed was resilience because when I was exhausted in my race I carried on and didn't give up.

I showed leadership by listening to the teachers and doing what they asked.

Excellence Evidence: Being a Role Model for the Kākano Students 2

The other day my friend was on Librarian and she needed some help. We went to the Library to get some books, we got three beanbags and two boxes of books. My friends job was to read to the Kākano students.

We set up the beanbags on the Music Room deck, and put the boxes down. Straight away at least five kids came over. Two girls came over two me, I asked them to choose a book. They came back with a Barbie book, one of them sat on my knee and I read the book to them. After that they swapped and the other one sat on my knee. We read a few more books then they wanted to go play. A few times I was in the middle of reading a book and the child I was reading to would just run off, but I showed resilience and put the book away and waited patiently for someone else to come.

Most of the books we read were very short, like a few pages. After that a few more children came over, for me to read to them. I also went around and offered to some children if they wanted to read a book because some of them didn't know that some of the seniors were readings to the juniors. All of the books I read were Barbie books.

The leaner quality I showed was resilience because a couple of times when the child would run away when I was reading, I put the book away and waited patiently for someone else to come.

I showed leadership by offering to read to the juniors and helping the other seniors

Excellence Evidence: Tabloid Sports 1

Yesterday we had Tabloid Sports, the Deputy Head Boy and I did the opening speech. Then everyone went off and started doing the activities, I was one of the few people who got to go around and help everyone with their activities and give out posies.

First I fill up a few buckets of water so people could participate in the water activities. After that I went around giving out posies to people who didn't give up and tried there best.

Then I joined in a few activities; all of the senior classes were paired up with junior classes. I joined my class and got a little buddy that I helped understand the game and encouraged if they thought they couldn't complete a task.

After a while we started finishing up, I took part in the closing speech as well. We didn't have anything planned so we had a small disscussion then said that. After that it was lunch time so we all had a nice picnic lunch outside.

The leaner quality I showed was communicate because I communicated with the Deputy Head Boy to make up a closing speech.

I showed leadership by helping the juniors when they were stuck and encourage them if they thought they couldn't achieve their goal.

Merit Evidence: Run Bike Run

Last Monday we had Run Bike Run. We left at ten-thirty so we could do Whanau Hui and get ready for the event. I'm in Rata house so I dressed up in a red/orange sports t-shirt. Then we walked to Halswell Domain because that was where Run Bike Run was held. Once we got there everybody sat down and had something to eat.

Then they started doing races, while each year group was running another year group was playing a game with the house captains. The year seven and eights played a game while the year sixes ran.

After our game of dodgeball it was our time to run. I was in a group with one other person, she did the biking part while I did the running ones. I was really nervous but once I'd started I pushed myself to the end. Then she did her biking part and then I was running again, once I'd finished I think we came about tenth place, which I thought was pretty good considering last year it was about 20th.

After our race we did the award ceremony then walked back to school, where we still had about an hour to go before we went home.

The learner quality I used was resilience because when I was nervous and tired I didn't give up because I knew my teammate was counting on me.

Merit Evidence: Technology

On Tuesday we had Technology. On the bus I sat near the back with my friend. We made sure that we weren't talking louder than a whisper because we didn't want the bus to get too noisy.

When we arrived at Lincoln Primary, I walked to Food Tech with my friends and we lined up (with the resources we needed) next to the door. Then we went inside. We sat down at the table and then got told that we were making cheese scrolls and piklets. But first we had to stick in photos from our final product into our book. We got the photos and we had to glue in the picture from each step into the steps in our book. After we had finished that we got to start our cheese rolls.

We got a piece of bread and some margarine, then a choice between tomato paste, cheese, pineapple and marmite; you could choose up too three fillings. We cut the bottom crust off our piece of bread then spread butter on one side then put our fillings on the other, then we rolled it up and put it on the baking tray to put in the oven for about ten minutes on grill.

Then we made piklets, we needed flour, whole meal flour, sugar, baking powder, milk, and an egg. We mixed all of the ingredients together then poured it into the pan to cook, we made three each. We also got to eat them with cream and jam, they were delicious.

The learner quality I showed was collaborate because I collaborated with my group while making the food.

Merit Evidence: Technology

On Tuesday we had tech. On the bus I sat near the back with my friend. We made sure that we were not talking too loud because we did not want the bus to get too noisy.

When we arrived at Lincoln Primary, I walked to Food Tech with my friends and we lined up ( with the resources we needed ) by the door. Then we went inside. We sat down at the table and we got told that we were making our final product. My group's final product was pinwheel scones with spaghetti, bacon and cheese. The requirements for the final product were:

- It had to reflect NZ heritage
- It needed to have no sugar
- It needed to have three of the four food groups
- It needed to be one of the five options that were on the board

In case you were wondering the food groups are meat, milk and milk products, fruit and vege and cereal and grain. The options were pizza potatoes, pinwheel scones, scones, a hangi or kumara and bacon muffins.

After that we made our final product, before we rolled it up we had an idea to not roll it up, pull the edges up a bit and then put it in the oven. So we made a spaghetti, bacon and cheese pizza, it was delicious!

The learner quality I showed was collaborate because I collaborated with my group about how we would complete the task.

Merit Evidence: Food Forest

For the past couple of days the year eights were lucky enough to help Mr McAven in the Food Forest. First we went to the Food Forest and did some weeding we used some secateurs (search it up) and some hedge clippers, we used them to cut the weeds out. The people that didn't have them used their muscles to get the weeds out.

Eventually we cleared it up and it looked BEAUTIFUL.

The next day we went to the maize maze (the corn place) and harvested the corn. Some of us harvested the corn, the people with the hedge clippers cut the (really long) weeds and a few people were on the trailer stomping the weeds down. I swapped round the different jobs. First I got some hedge clippers and cut up all the weeds, then I pulled out some corn and last I stomped on the trailer.

I really enjoyed gardening with Mr McAven.

Merit Evidence: Jellie Park

On Friday the whole school went to Jellie Park. When I got to school I was told that the Head Girl was away so I had to do the speech for her, and as smart as I am I forgot the paper with the speech on it. But luckily I had already remembered it off by heart and the Head Boy had it with him so we were prepared. When we arrived at Jellie Park I found out that the student leaders got to sit away from the other students and we got a whole chair to ourselves, which I thought was pretty cool because all of the other students had to bunch up really tight because there wasn't enough room. The two Sports Coodinators did the first speech, then the House Points Coodinators, then us. I was quite nervous but once I started I wasn't too nervous. Then once we'd finished I was really relieved and we could start the races. First was the width races, I wasn't in any of them so just helped sort the kickboards and watched some of the races. Then we played a couple of house games eg. madness. After that we went outside with the Kākano students and had some lunch, I got to see my friend who was helping the Kākano teachers with the event. After lunch we went back inside to do the length races which I was in. I was so nervous I was shaking because I hadn't done swimming in a while. It was finally my race, freestyle. I came third which I was really proud of. Then I did backstroke and I came third again which I was also really proud of. Then we finished up with the relays and Miss O's class won again. Then once everyone was changed back into their clothes we hopped on the buses and left for school. But some of the buses didn't come so we were waiting for ages outside for them. Then they finally came and we got on and headed back to school and by the time we got back it was 4:00.
The learner quality I showed was resilience because when the buses didn't come I didn't complain I just waited and listened to the teachers.
